We were at Taste Moor again this year making carnival masks down on the Moor as part of the Sheffield Food Festival that happened over the
bank holiday weekend. We had a great time!! Like last year, the children loved our carnival arts tent and really enjoyed making masks it was busy busy busy day!
Thanks to Nycha Dance studios who performed with our carnival troupe girls, their carnival routine was on point.
Now if you’re thinking, “Ah that looks fun, I wish I had got involved” but don’t worry, there’s still time. If you like to dance it up, carnival style, we are still looking for people to join our troupe and we make it very very easy. Simply complete our registration form to sign up today!
Well we came to add a splash of carnival to the One Sheffield Many
Cultures Festival on 21st May down on Barkers Pool. There was a good
turn out and we saw some great acts. Our carnival troupe girls came
ready to add a splash of carnival but unfortunately the heavens opened
and the event was stopped due to the bad weather.
We would like to recruit more people to join our troupe, so if you’re interested please register now.
Many of you have been asking, “when is the carnival going to be held in Sheffield?”.
Due to difficulty obtaining funding and due to requiring further support in terms of planning and activities, we have decided that there will not be a carnival this year. We feel strongly that if Sheffield is going to have a carnival, it needs to be done right.
However DO NOT DESPAIR!! There is still plenty to get involved in over the coming months. We plan to add a “Splash” of carnival to events and festivals across Sheffield, as well as take a troupe to Leeds Carnival to represent Sheffield.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates and how you can get involved.
If you want to join our carnival troupe, please get in touch firstname.lastname@example.org
We are offering a FREE Carnival Taster workshop!
This is an opportunity for you to have a go at creating a carnival costume and learn a dance routine fit for a carnival troupe, with a view to showcasing what we have created at a later date. We will introduce you to the carnival art form by showing you how to make a basic carnival costume and we have a dance instructor who will be showing you how to shake those hips.
Are you interested in joining a carnival troupe? Would you like to learn a carnival inspired dance? Or do you have creative/artist skills to help support our workshops?
If so…then why not come down to SADACCA on Thursday 24th March 3-6pm
Did we mention this carnival arts taster workshop is FREE…!?!
It’s been since a long time since we last posted, but we’ve been busy beavering away in the background. We’ve had a busy summer getting involved with the community and sharing our vision to bring a carnival to Sheffield.
So what have we been up to? Well, in July we had great fun running limbo competitions at the Family Cook Out event at the Power League Stadium and at the Family Fun Day at the Caribbean Sports Club. There was a good turnout and the children had great fun doing the limbo.
We also had a fundraising Zumbathon, testing our dance moves to the maximum. Everyone who came had a great time, thanks to our excellent instructor Kellyanne Watts-Sharman.
In August we got crafty making carnival masks at Sharrow Festival, this proved very popular with the children (and the older ones too). It was a great way to introduce people to the idea of carnival arts and let their creativity run wild.
So, what’s next? Now we need to get on with planning our first carnival.
We are delighted to announce that a venue for the carnival is booked and details will be confirmed later.
Eeeeekkk, it’s exciting, but there’s still lots of work to do, and funds to raise so if you’d like to help with the planning, organising or fundraising please get in touch.
We’ll keep you posted…
We are holding a 1 hour Zumbathon led by qualified Zumba instructor Kellyanne Watts Sharman.
Ditch the workout and join the party!
Come and shake it carnival style, get fit and have fun at the same time!

On Saturday 23rd May we took part in the Taste Moor which is an annual food festival held in Sheffield, where we were part of the creative cultural celebrations hosted by Ignite Imaginations. We had a crafts area on the Moor in Sheffield, making carnival headdresses with young children.
It was a great day , we had great weather too and the children really enjoyed themselves. We managed to speak to lots of people who were excited about the prospects of having a carnival in Sheffield and many that said they wanted to get involved.
We’re planning to add a ‘carnival splash’ to more events in Sheffield, so keep in touch and we’ll keep you posted on our other activities.
